ADVOCACY
Internal Advocacy
The GADN aims to create a strong and diverse network, with a powerful political voice that provides a framework to support individuals and organisations in their work towards gender equality and women’s rights. As such we aim to encourage our members and others in their capacity to mainstream gender issues within their organisations.
We do this by:
- Provide space for networking, information sharing and learning exchange through our members’ meetings
- Producing a monthly e-newsletter on issues of gender and development in the UK and across the globe
- Working with our members’ in thematic Working Groups such as Violence Against Women and Gender Mainstreaming
- Bringing the voices of organisations and individuals working on gender and development to the UK Government including DFID
External Lobbying
GADN members enjoy direct contact with government officials and agencies and are ideally placed to both contribute to and lobby around development policy and practice. The GADN lobbies donors and development agencies at national, regional and international levels
National Lobbying
The GADN work with the Department for International Development and other UK based development agencies to ensure the mainstreaming of women’s rights and gender concerns into development practice and policy.
When resources allow we respond to consultations, to see our recent responses click here. We also host events, conferences, workshops and seminars targeted at key development actors to raise awareness and knowledge of issues in gender and development.
Regional Lobbying
The GADN is also engaged in lobbying on an EU level through acting as a national platform for Women in Development Europe – WIDE. For more information about GADN’s role in WIDE click here. You can find out more information about their work visit the website.
International Lobbying
When opportunities arise and resources allow, the GADN take the opportunity to lobby at an international level on wider development issues. For example in 2008 we attended the Accra High Level Forum which aimed to assess the progress of and deepen the implications of the Paris Declaration (September 2008) and the follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development to Review the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus in Doha, Qatar (November 2008).
